The burned in MAC address. This is the MAC address assigned by the factory when the unit is shipped. If the User configured address is set to 0, then this will be the address used by the adapter for the source address field for all frames sent by the LAN adapter. The format ordering of bits is as defined in IEEE 802.5. This ordering is where the Most Significant Bit is transmitted first. This is different from other protocols (e.g. 802.3) where the least significant bit is transmitted first. The representation of the MAC address is in the format native for the LAN port. Boundary platform Token-Ring LAN ports start with the first six digits (three octects) equal to 0002F6 which indicates a Sync Research Token Ring MAC address. Boundary platform Ethernet LAN ports start with the first six digits (three octects) equal to to 00406F which indicates a Sync Research Ethernet MAC address. This field is not changable via any commands and will always contain the manufactured MAC address for the LAN port.
